Organization of studies at FST-Lyon 1: undergraduate and graduate studies
The degree offer at Lyon 1 is manifold. The main degrees managed by the Faculty of Science and Technology are:
- the "Licence" degree (equivalent of Bachelor/Undergraduate)
- the Master degree
- the Doctorate
The Licence degree is usually performed over 6 semesters (3 years) and requires accumulating 180 credits of the European Credits Transfer System. Most Licence teaching units (unité d'enseignement, UE) are worth 6 ECTS, so that the typical workload for a semester consists of 5 UEs. One UE may include broad audience lectures (Cours Magistraux -CM) and/or tutorials in smaller groups (Travaux Dirigés -TD) and/or lab works (Travaux Pratiques-TP).
The Master degree is usually performed over 4 semesters (2 years). It requires holding a Licence Degree and accumulating 120 credits of the ECTS. Typical Master programs include academic education over 3 semesters and 1 semester of internship.
Master programs are classified as either Professional, Research or Mixed, essentially depending on the job career target.
